Trận đấu đầu tiên của năm mới 2017 giữa Liverpool 1-0 Man City đã chứng minh rằng những con số thống kê trở nên hoàn toàn vô nghĩa.

Trong khoảng 10 năm trở lại đây khi bóng đá phát triển bùng nổ, các HLV bắt đầu sử dụng phần mềm thống kê để đưa ra những đấu pháp cụ thể. Một trong những người đi đầu chính là Guardiola khi còn ở Barca. Cựu tiền vệ người Tây Ban Nha đề cao chỉ số kiểm soát bóng nên ông đã xây dựng lối chơi Tiki-Taka. Từ đây, sức ảnh hưởng của các con số thống kê trở nên rất lớn với các đội bóng. Tuy nhiên giữa con số trên máy tính và thực tế là những con số vô cùng “ảo”. Một trong những trường hợp tiêu biểu nhất là của Van Gaal ở M.U khi cố kiểm soát bóng thật nhiều nhưng thi đấu lại bết bát.

Khi các đá pressing ra đời thì người ta hiểu rằng những con số thống kê chỉ mang tính tham khảo. Thậm chí nó còn là con dao hai lưỡi với bất kỳ HLV nào cố dựa vào những thống kê mờ mờ, ảo ảo. Trận đấu Liverpool 1-0 Man City vừa kết thúc có thể coi là “tuyên ngôn” cho hai trường phái này. Không phải đây là hai đội bóng lớn mà là màn so tài giữa hai phong cách khác biệt. Guardiola đề cao những con số thống kê, đó là phải cầm bóng nhiều, chuyền nhiều, chuyền chính xác nhiều, sút nhiều, phạt góc nhiều… thì đội đó sẽ chiến thắng. Hôm nay, Man City có tất cả những điều đó, con số duy nhất mà họ kém hơn đối thủ là… bảng tỷ số. Citizens cầm bóng 57%, chuyền tới 575 lần (nhiều hơn Liverpool 140 lần), không chiến thành công (27-17), phạt góc (6-4), qua người (17-7), cướp được bóng (18-15) và cuối cùng quan trọng nhất là sút (9-5).

Nếu chưa ai xem trận đấu và kết quả thì sẽ thấy sự vượt trội của Man City, một trận đấu mà Citizens làm chủ suốt 90 (và có thể sẽ thắng). Thế nhưng sự thật thì hoàn toàn ngược lại. Một trận cầu mà Liverpool hoàn toàn “bắt thóp” đội khách từ thành Manchester. Các học trò của Klopp chỉ biết chạy, chạy và chạy (chạy theo chiến thuật) để đuổi theo bóng. Sự bất lực của thầy trò HLV Guardiola trong 15 phút cuối trận, không thể cầm bóng tấn công đã nói lên rằng những chỉ số thống kê trận đấu chẳng có ý nghĩa gì khi áp dụng.

Đã có thời cả thế giới phát cuồng với lối đá Tiki-Taka mà Guardiola tạo ra với triết lý hàng đầu là kiểm soát bóng. Hôm nay, vẫn cách chơi đó, Man City cầm bóng gần 60% nhưng vẫn thất bại toàn diện trước Liverpool. Cách đá dựa quá nhiều vào thống kê của Man City trở thành “vật phản chủ” trước pressing của Klopp. Giờ đây kiểm soát bóng hay các chỉ số kỹ thuật đều trở nên vô nghĩa bởi nó không hề quyết định số phận trận đấu.
