Cục diện của bảng G đã ngã ngũ trước một lượt trận. Man City đã chắc chắn đi tiếp với tâm thế đội đầu bảng, trong khi đó Sevilla cũng chắc chắn có được vị trí thứ 3 để xuống chơi ở Europa League. Rafa Mir mở tỷ số cho Sevilla

Chỉ trong vòng 3 phút cuối hiệp 1, Sergio Gomez có liên tiếp 2 cơ hội ghi bàn nhưng không thể tận dụng. Đầu tiên là cú đá bị đối phương cản phá, sau đó là tình huống dứt điểm ở góc hẹp nhưng thủ thành Yassine Bounou đã xuất sắc cản phá. Tới phút 64, cầu thủ vừa vào sân thay người Erik Lamela thực hiện cú đá rất căng trong vòng cấm của Man City, nhưng bóng lại đi chệch cột dọc. Pep Guardiola đã đưa Kevin de Bruyne vào sân, ông thầy người TBN muốn Man xanh giành chiến thắng ở trận đấu này. 

Kevin de Bruyne vừa vào sân đã kiến tạo cho Alvarez ghi bàn nâng tỷ số lên 2-1 ở phút 73.
